Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know — whether you're looking for help, referring someone, or want to get involved.

For People Seeking Help

Yes. Redemption House is free for anyone who needs it to be. We don't turn people away because of money. If cost is a concern, don't let it stop you from reaching out.

No insurance and no referral required. Redemption House is a peer-run respite, not a clinical program. You can reach out directly — by phone, by form, or by showing up.

We serve adults living with Substance Use Disorder who need a safe place to restart their recovery. This includes people leaving treatment with nowhere to go, people who have relapsed and need to stabilize, and anyone in the recovery community who needs short-term transitional support.

Redemption House is a short-term respite — typically a few days to a few weeks depending on your situation. Our goal is to stabilize you and connect you with longer-term support, including New Beginning Recovery sober living houses when you're ready for that next step.

Your privacy is respected. We do not share your information without your permission. If you want your family involved in your recovery, we can help facilitate that — but it's your choice.

Redemption House is not a medical facility. We don't provide detox, clinical treatment, or medication management. We provide a safe, structured, peer-supported living environment — a bridge for people who have completed or paused treatment and need a stable place while they rebuild. If you need medical detox, we can help connect you with those resources first.

We do our best to pick up every call. If you get voicemail, leave a message and we will call you back as soon as possible — usually the same day. You can also submit a request through our online form and someone will follow up quickly.

For Family Members & Case Workers

Yes. Case workers, social workers, hospital discharge planners, and family members can all submit a request on behalf of someone in need. Use the Request Assistance form or call Rick directly at 203-909-5707.

Reach out anyway. We're happy to talk through options with you, connect you with resources, or simply be a resource for when they are ready. You don't have to have everything figured out before you call.

For Supporters & Donors

Yes. Redemption House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All monetary donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt for your records.

Absolutely. We accept in-kind donations including men's clothing, toiletries, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food, and linens. You can drop items off directly at 10 Crescent St. — call first to arrange a time — or purchase from our Amazon Wish List and have it shipped directly to us.

Yes — especially if you're in recovery yourself. Redemption House is staffed by peer volunteers, many of whom come from the New Beginning Recovery community. Call Rick at 203-909-5707 or email rickd@newbeginningrecovery.org to learn more.

Redemption House is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit respite — a free, short-term safety net for people in crisis. New Beginning Recovery (NBR) operates the longer-term sober living houses (6 houses, 97+ men in New Haven). They share leadership, mission, and a collaborative referral pipeline — Redemption House is often the first step before someone transitions into an NBR house.
